Successful Yando Hall event helps community reconnect

More than 65 locals from Yando, Canary Island and Appin South packed out the Yando Hall last Friday (6 October) to reconnect with one another and hear from renowned public speaker and mental health advocate Warren ‘The Unbreakable Farmer’ Davies.

Outside, as the sun set, talented local musician Elias Lanyon sound tracked the scene as the crowd tucked into a delicious barbecue dinner prepared by the Pyramid Hill Lions Club.

As the night cooled off, the gathering moved indoors, where the always-entertaining Bradley Haw emceed and brought Warren on stage.

Touching on everything from his experiences of family breakdowns and succession plans, struggles of dairy farming in drought, and hitting rock bottom on the footy field, Warren’s stories allow us to more clearly see ourselves and each other in difficult times.

Warren spoke about the importance of realising when you need support, and the role communities play in looking out for one another, and staying connected.

“As Warren and Bradley both rightly pointed out, having great local support services available can make all the difference in managing the tougher times in agriculture and in rural communities more generally,” Council’s Director Community Wellbeing Wendy Gladman said.

“This included our local supports who attended the evening – Pat from the Royal Flying Doctors Service and Rosie from Northern District Community Health.

“Council would also like to extend a huge thank-you and congratulations to Bradley Haw, Madeleine Scott and Ros Gawne for all their hard work and dedication to their community.

“We also are very grateful to Warren, Elias, Bill, Tania and the entire Pyramid Hill Lion’s Club team for making this such a brilliant night for the community of Yando and surrounds.”
