Draft Community Local Law 2022 – Have your say

No longer on display. Expired on 31 August 2022, 05:00 PM

Loddon Shire Council encourages the community to have a say on a draft Community Local Law that will replace Council’s previous local laws.

The local law is being prepared in accordance with the Local Government Act 2020 and Loddon Shire Council’s Community Engagement Policy.

The objectives of the local law are to provide for:

  1. the peace, order and good governance of the Loddon Shire;
  2. a safe and healthy environment in which residents and visitors can enjoy a quality of life that meets their expectations;
  3. the protection and enhancement of community amenity;
  4. the control of activities or land use which may be hazardous, unsafe or detrimental to the quality of life or the environment;
  5. the fair and reasonable use and enjoyment of private land; and
  6. fair and consistent administration of this Local Law.

Council officers have reviewed previous local laws, compared them with similar and surrounding councils, and identified opportunities intended to simplify, strengthen and consolidate the local laws to a new Community Local Law in a way that continues to meet the needs of the Loddon community.

The draft local law covers a wide range of clauses, with parts covering:

  • council land, streets and roads;
  • private property;
  • animals and pets;
  • waste and recycling; and
  • administration and enforcement.

A copy of the draft local law is available for inspection at the council offices, 41 High Street, Wedderburn and you can dowload a copy by clicking here.  Further information including a response to some frequently asked questions, a summary table of the changes and a community impact statement is also available here.
