Loddon youth survey
Council is inviting young people (aged 12 to 25 years) in the Loddon Shire to share their thoughts and opinions about the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on themselves and the community.
As Council explores ways to reduce the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic it’s seeking feedback from young people about what they would be interested in seeing implemented.
What aspects of life in lockdown have you found difficult? What events and programs would you like to see in the Shire? This is a chance for young people to have their say.
By completing this survey you will go into the draw to win a $50 voucher from the store of your choice – either Google Play, Apple iTunes, Netflix, Catch, Kogan, E-Bay, Xbox or PlayStation.
All responses are anonymous and confidential.
The survey is available from https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/loddonyouth
Event sponsorship fund
Council’s event sponsorship assists community groups organising events in the municipality with funds to promote the event.
Applications from community groups can be made under one of the two categories – Major Event Category or Minor Event Category.
The Major Event Category offers $1,000 for events of regional or state significance that attract a significant number of visitors from outside the region – for example, state sporting events and/or major festivals.
The Minor Event Category offers $400 for events of local and sub-regional significance – for example, annual sporting tournaments or local community festivals.
For more information visit www.loddon.vic.gov.au/For-residents/Community-support/Council-grants and click on Event promotion scheme.
Your application must be lodged online through Council’s SmartyGrants program at least 30 days prior to the event to be considered for funding.
Remembrance Day
This Wednesday 11 November is Remembrance Day. It is a time to pause and remember those who have died and been injured in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.
In recognition of the day, please wear a red poppy as a symbol of remembrance. All Australians are also urged to observe one minute’s silence at 11am and reflect on the service and sacrifice of all our defence personnel and that of their families.
Serpentine plaque unveiling
The East Loddon Historical Society will commemorate 100 years since the Second Peace Loan Aerial Derby, which started from Serpentine, with an unveiling of a plaque on Remembrance Day.
The bronze plaque highlights the names of the four pilots and four mechanics that flew in the original race as well as the aerial derby organiser. It will be placed in TJ Rudkins Reserve, on the 1983 Australia Day ceremony monument, which also features a propeller monument and plaque commemorating the Aerial Derby.
While the original race day actually took place on 27 August 1920, the ceremony to commemorate the 100-year anniversary on 27 August this year was unable to go ahead due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The ceremony is now planned for 11 November, which will be held in line with current COVID-19 restrictions.
For more information regarding the plaque unveiling, contact Elizabeth McGauchie on 0427 840 139.
The Serpentine Air Race, which was originally scheduled in March this year, has been postponed until Sunday 28 February 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. To find out more visit https://serpentineairrace.com.au/
