Wool buyer opens its doors

Sheep farmers in Loddon Shire will welcome the news of a long-established wool buyer setting up shop in Wedderburn’s main street.

F. Ferguson Wool Company had previously been operating in town in co-operation with the Wedderburn Farmware and Produce Store, but has now decided to open its own shopfront next door in the former W. Cashen & Sons Mobil garage.

Managing director David Martin said the first day of business would be next Wednesday, 9 April.

“F. Ferguson Wool Company has been in business since 1870 and the Wedderburn area is an important one for wool, with some very good-quality Merinos around,” Mr Martin said.

“We’re opening our own shopfront because we want to grow our business.

“We will be in Wedderburn to buy each Wednesday, but farmers can leave wool at the produce store on other days.

“We would want to thank Loddon Shire for their assistance in helping to facilitate this move – it’s been much appreciated.”

Loddon Shire CEO, John McLinden said the news of the new shopfront was welcome, not only for the region’s agricultural sector, but also for the town.

“It’s a positive contribution to the rise in commercial activity on the street,” Mr McLinden said.

“It’s good to see Ferguson Wool giving Wedderburn its vote of confidence in this way and we wish the company well.”

F. Ferguson Wool Company also acts as agents for Australian-made fencing products and distributes R.U.M. plant food.   

Based at Epsom, it has branch offices in Kerang, Maryborough and Shepparton.
