Enjoy a wonderful day out with this year’s Wedderburn Open Gardens. With seven public and private gardens open to explore, there is also a number of fantastic extras at various locations around town.
Marg van Veen, co-ordinator for Wedderburn Community House, says that the format is a little different this year. “All of the gardens are in town this year, making it easy to walk between each of them. There’s a wonderful variety too, from a cottage garden, to a permaculture garden and one that incorporates natural bush art and mosaics. One of the gardens is a 16-year labour of love that I know people will just adore.”
With this season already offering a nice drop of rain and such different and unique gardens on show, this year is sure to be a lovely display.
“Visitors can come to the Community House to register for the day,” Marg explains. “They’ll get a ticket that will provide them with a free Devonshire Tea, and a map of all the places to visit. In our own community garden and nursery, there will be garden market stalls, wood fire pizzas and wine tasting. There will also be a free lucky door prize and a raffle with the chance to win a $200 garden sculpture.”
The gardens at the recently renovated Anglican Church, and the Coach House Gallery & Museum will also have a variety of market stalls and the op shop will be open for anyone keen to have a browse.
“There really is something for everyone,” Marg says. “It’s not just about gardens. The men who come along all seem to really enjoy looking through the shed filled with old coaches out the back of the Coach House Gallery and there will be some wonderful market stalls if you love to shop.”
Tickets are $20 and the day starts at 9.30am.
