WEDDERBURN SPRING DANCE
Published on 04 September 2019
WHEN: Friday 18 October
WHERE: Mechanics Institute Hall
Reef Street
Wedderburn
The Wedderburn Spring Dance is ready to Rock’n’Roll again! For anyone who enjoys a social night out, and a bit of a jive, this is a fun event and everyone is welcome.
Marg van Veen, co-ordinator for Wedderburn Community House, says that it’s a great night for all. “It’s such fun. We’ve got a fantastic live band from Bendigo – Slap Back Jack and the Magic 8 Balls – and the Jailhouse Rockers also come along and show us how it’s done, so the atmosphere is wonderful.
“Everyone dresses up in Rock’n’Roll outfits and this year’s dance is raising funds for the McGrath Foundation so we’ve got a pink theme. We can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with and prizes are on offer.”
Marg explains that the dance originated from the dance classes that are held year-round on a Tuesday evening in the hall by instructor, Dede Williams. For those who are keen to learn a few moves, there will be four Rock’n’Roll sessions leading up to the evening. Of course, classes are not essential.
“You can pick up most of the dances really quickly,” Marg says. “A lot of them are fairly simple. We’re going to have progressive dances and Rock’n’Roll line dancing as well, so there’s no need to have a partner. There will be something for everyone.
“Get a group of friends together, or even just come along on your own, and have fun with the community. Ticket prices include a big country supper, and we also cater for vegetarian and gluten free diets.”
Tickets are $20 per person and include supper, tea and coffee. BYO drinks, and tables are available to book. Booking is ideal, to allow for catering numbers, but payment can be made on the night.
