Volunteer lifeguard opportunity

Published on 01 October 2019

When:      Volunteer lifeguard training, October 2019
Where:     Boort Pool, Lakeview Street, Boort

The Healthy Heart of Victoria initiative in partnership with Loddon Shire Council, is looking for expressions of interest from people keen to train as volunteer pool lifeguards. Volunteer lifeguards will not only gain valuable experience but will also contribute to the wellbeing of their community.

By increasing the number of lifeguards available at each of the five Loddon Shire Council pools, it is anticipated that the current operating hours for the pools will be extended to include early morning swimming sessions as well as water aerobics.

The course will teach participants the skills and knowledge required to supervise swimming pool users. The course focus includes pool surveillance, scanning techniques, rescue skills, oxygen resuscitation and emergency care.

To be eligible for the training course, applicants must have good general fitness, and be able to volunteer a minimum of four hours per week during the 2019-2020 swimming season. All training will be supplied by the Healthy Heart of Victoria initiative and participants will gain a nationally recognised qualification.

There is no cost to the participants. Applicants must also be willing to undertake a police check and have or be willing to obtain a current Working With Children Check.

Applicants must also have a current first aid certificate. If first aid training is required, this would need to be undertaken on Wednesday 9 October prior to undertaking the lifeguard training course.

To register, or for more information contact Amy Holmes 0436 816 375 aholmes@loddon.vic.gov.au by 8 October 2019 (first round) or 15 October (second round)
