Sucessfully exiting your business

Looking to hang up your hat as a small business owner?
Doing just that – in the best way possible – is the focus of a special workshop planned for Wedderburn on 4 October, organised by Small Business Victoria in conjunction with Loddon Shire Council.
Entitled “Successfully Exiting Your Business”, the session will offer tips from an expert, a workbook and personal planning guide and free, one-on-one follow-up mentoring.
The organisation says its Wedderburn workshop will help people develop their handover plans, maximise the value of their businesses and outline the steps needed to set new owners up for ongoing success.
Further assistance measures to be offered include networking opportunities with owners at different stages of leaving their businesses and a follow-up pack containing the presentation slides, tips and links to further resources.
The workshop presenter will be succession planning and business improvement specialist Brian Hinneberg, currently director of Bendigo consultancy Advice Plus and a former rural development manager at Loddon Shire Council.
Loddon Shire tourism marketing officer Robyn Vella said the impetus for the event sprang from a recent Council survey, which showed the need for this kind of information.
“Loddon has about 15 businesses currently on the market, including a hotel, coffee shop, newsagency, post office and accommodation provider,” Mrs Vella said.
“Those people are looking to go, but there may be others also thinking about it.
“We want people to understand more about how to best exit their businesses and how to develop sound succession planning.
“Many owners do a lot of work in their business, but not on their business.”
The workshop will run at the Loddon Visitor Information Centre from 6pm to 8.15pm and cost is $20 per head for a light meal, tea and coffee.
