Strike Gold in Loddon Shire

Published on 01 December 2015

Loddon Shire has a reputation for being the place to strike it lucky in the gold stakes.

During the festive season those chances are on the increase, with the return of the popular gold nugget draw being run for the third consecutive year through Loddon Shire Council in conjunction with the Loddon Visitor Information Centre.

Loddon Shire Council Tourism Officer Robyn Vella said to be in the running to win a genuine gold nugget all you have to do is visit the Shire, complete an entry form and pop it into a draw box.

“Because we are such a geographically diverse municipality, it’s quite difficult to get a true reflection of tourism patterns across the Shire,” she said.

“A tourism office isn’t located in each and every town, so the collection of statistical data is complicated by that fact.”

“The gold nugget draw is one way we work around this to gather a true snapshot of travel patterns, while also providing a fun way to thank people for visiting our richly diverse region.”

“Discovering whether people are here to visit family and friends, to enjoy a nature based activity in Boort, to trawl Inglewood’s antique shops or explore Wedderburn’s golden past, is valuable information which helps us plan for the future.”

Entry forms for Loddon Shire’s gold nugget lucky draw will be available in businesses right across the Shire from early December until the end of January, with the winner to be announced on 15 February at the Loddon Visitor Information Centre.

Competition boxes will be found at tourist information stands located in towns including Boort, Bridgewater, Dingee, Inglewood, Logan, Mitiamo, Pyramid Hill, Serpentine, Tarnagulla and Wedderburn.

Ms Vella encouraged all visitors to the Shire throughout the competition period to complete an entry form.

“If you haven’t joined in the fun of this highly anticipated event to date why not take the chance, and if you missed striking gold first or second time round, who knows, it just may be a case of third time lucky!”
