Bendigo Regional Tourism has backed Council’s efforts to promote local food and wine producers with an invitation to display their wares at this year’s Royal Melbourne Show.
Regional Tourism Development Officer for Bendigo Regional Tourism Lauren Mitchell said this was a rare opportunity to showcase the region’s wares direct to a massive audience.
Bendigo Regional Tourism – which covers the Loddon, Mount Alexander and Central Goldfields Shires, plus the City of Greater Bendigo – has secured a stand in the “Tastes of Victoria” pavilion to promote the region as a food and wine lovers’ holiday destination.
“The stand will be open for the 12 days of the Show to promote the new Bendigo Region Food & Wine Fossicking app, plus Bendigo and its surrounding towns and villages,” Ms Mitchell said.
She is looking for producers willing to spend one day promoting their business via the stand.
“You can sell direct to the public and offer samples of your produce, plus support the region by acting as an ambassador,” Ms Mitchell said.
“There is no direct cost to you except your time and effort.”
Loddon Shire Tourism Manager Robyn Vella said she hoped there would be a number of Loddon Valley producers stepping up to support the venture.
“The Tastes of Victoria pavilion is a tremendously popular feature of the Show and represents a marvellous chance to put your product in front of huge numbers of people,” Mrs Vella said.
“We also plan to use the event to further promote our new Bendigo Regional Tourism food and wine app, which is due out in July.”
More than 500,000 people visit the Show over the 12 days with an average length of stay of six hours, while the Show’s online profile lifts that market reach enormously.

This year's Royal Melbourne Show runs from Saturday, September 20 to Wednesday, October 1.
