Self-Contained Accommodation is growing in Loddon Valley

Published on 22 December 2016

All the comforts of home with a very different view through the windows: that’s the opportunity presented by the growing number of options for high-quality self-contained accommodation in Loddon Shire.

The latest addition to the list is “Parklands Retreat”, at Bridgewater, a 1950s-style double-brick home on a working farm.

With three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large living/dining area and games room, the house is set among native trees with an abundance of birdlife.

Bridgewater also has Graylee Cottage, a short walk from both the main street and the Loddon River, and Learmonths Place, a renovated farmhouse 7km south of the town.
Boort boasts Banyandah Retreat, on the western shore of Little Lake Boort, Pink Olive House in the main street and Nellie’s Retro Farm Stay, in nearby Yando.

At Wedderburn, KurracaBurN Heights offers private accommodation in the town’s former hospital, while Rostrata Farm Stay at Tarnagulla provides the atmosphere of a farm first selected in 1865.

Family activities abound around the area, with the Loddon River, the northern wetlands, nature reserves, walking trails, gold detecting and intriguing small towns all potential holiday highlights.

Bridgewater’s happy location on the river and near Cairn Curran and Laanecoorie reservoirs means plentiful opportunities for water skiing, fishing, canoeing, swimming and cycling.

Inglewood is the base for exploring Kooyoora State Park, Melville Caves and 1200ha Inglewood Nature Conservation Reserve, as well as browsing its famed cluster of antiques and collectables stores and Blue Eucy Museum.

Amateur gold fossickers are drawn to Tarnagulla and Wedderburn to test their luck, while Boort’s bountiful wetlands offer riches of a different kind, with their striking indigenous history and wildlife.

Further accommodation options for visitors include caravan parks, hotels, motels, bush campsites and RV-Friendly Destinations for motorhomes.
