A unique and creative element of the Boort Agricultural and Pastoral Society Show is the Annual Boort Sculpture By The Lake. This is the fifth year of the renowned metal sculpture competition that sees craftspeople from all over the region trying their hand at metalwork.

Paul Haw, a member of the Boort Show committee, says it is unique offerings such as this competition that add to the positive atmosphere of the show weekend.

“We’ve got to keep our country shows alive and this is an excellent way to gather added support to a fantastic event,” Paul says. “It is a great opportunity for budding artists to get out their welder and see what they can make out of metal.”

 “Local resident, John Piccoli, runs a Father’s Day open garden at his place where people can be inspired by his incredible spanner sculptures, and the proceeds from this weekend generously go to the Sculpture By The Lake winner. It’s well worth entering as there are a number of cash prizes.”

With a $20 entry fee and the overall winner receiving $2000, it’s well worth having a go. Paul explains that in previous years some of the sculptures have been purchased, in order to add to the existing artwork that is part of the Sculpture Trail showcased around Boort Lake.

“As long as the sculpture is made predominately from metal, we’d love to see it,” he says.

The competition now forms an important part of what has become a fabulous attraction at the Boort Show. The Show is one of the last in the shire each year and it’s a very active event – right through to the fireworks at sunset.
