Pyramid Hill Fiesta Saturday 22 October

Celebration, Filipino-style, will again take centre-stage in Pyramid Hill when the second town-wide Fiesta bursts into life on Saturday 22 October.
The event will feature cultural dance and singing, karaoke, Filipino and Australian food, games and a pageant.
Mixed in will be more home-grown offerings, such as a Lions Club barbecue, market stalls, face painting, a basketball challenge, animal farm, the latest Kool Skools CD launch and afternoon teas provided by the Pyramid Hill Neighbourhood House.
The Fiesta is part of the 2016 “Naturally Loddon” Spring Festival, a program comprising 10 family-friendly events spread across eight weeks.
Based in the Kelly Park precinct, the idea was conceived by the Pyramid Hill Progress Association as a means of recognising the town’s growing Filipino community and building understanding between the two cultures.
The event coordinator, Council tourism and marketing officer Robyn Vella, said responses to last year had been “outstanding”.
“Everyone immediately said you just have to do this again and we’ve received lots of suggestions about how it could be made bigger and better,” Mrs Vella said.
“We had about 600 people come last time from as far afield as Melbourne and Wangaratta.
“This year, Pyramid Hill College is managing the catering and students are hand-painting all the bunting, St Patrick’s Primary children will deliver the Acknowledgement of Country and students from both schools are doing street dancing.
“Our pre-schoolers are taking part in the traditional Filipino ‘Santacruzan’ parade, the Lions Club is running a barbecue and market, the football club’s running the bar and the Neighbourhood House is providing a traditional afternoon tea from the Men’s Shed.
“Loddon Shire has provided seed funding this year to establish the Fiesta, but we still need volunteers on the day.
“The annual Kool Skools CD launch will also take place that evening, along with plenty of karaoke, an animal farm and a ‘freedom wall’, where young artists can exhibit their skills at street art.”
The Fiesta runs from 4pm to 10pm. Entry costs $40 for a family, $15 adult and $5 primary school children, but all food is free from then on.
