New policy welcomes community engagement
Published on 07 May 2021
A new policy adopted by Council at its Ordinary Meeting in February encourages greater engagement by the community.
The Community Engagement Policy, which is a requirement under the new Local Government Act, aims to communicate how Council will inform, consult with, involve, collaborate and empower the community in various engagement activities undertaken by Council.
“The policy’s purpose is to build on Council’s relationship with communities and stakeholders, promote transparent and informed decision-making, and increase the community’s understanding of the roles and responsibilities of Council,” Director Corporate Services Sharon Morrison said.
Mrs Morrison thanked community members and staff who assisted with the development of the policy.
“This assistance helped Council in developing the Community Engagement Policy.
“A group of community members assisted with the development of the policy, and will continue to monitor and review the policy over the next six months.”
A copy of the Community Engagement Policy is available on Council’s website:

“Feedback on the policy is welcome anytime – as this feedback will help Council to continuously improve its approach to engagement,” Mrs Morrison added.
