New Gastronomy Guide celebrates regions culture and traditions

Published on 30 March 2021

The Loddon Valley features in a new gastronomy guide that showcases the region’s culture and traditions around food and drink.

Launched on Monday, the informative and easy to use Bendigo and Region Gastronomy Guide features five categories: eat, drink, buy, experience and explore.

The explore section, for example, details trails, itineraries and local produce to suit every taste, budget and timeframe. It is designed for day trips, a long weekend and for stays longer than three days. The experience section has cooking classes, tours and workshops.

Loddon Shire Mayor Neil Beattie welcomed the launch of the guide, which promotes the region’s rich culture and traditions around food and drink, creativity and sustainability.

“It’s fantastic that the Loddon Valley is part of this guide, which provides an opportunity for both residents and tourists to explore the wonderful food and drink experiences,” Cr Beattie said.

The guide enables people to customise their own experience, including building their own trails and exploring current trails, creating their own favourites list and sharing experiences on social media.

“The guide is a fantastic showcase of our region that appeals to everyone, including tourists and residents.”

The guide was produced by the City of Greater Bendigo in partnership with Bendigo Regional Tourism with input from the Loddon Shire.

A Local Producers Directory was also launched, enabling people to search for innovative producers.

The Directory also gives producers in the broader region the opportunity to connect with more customers – including businesses and individuals, and create a comprehensive listing of food and drink that is made and grown in the region.

“This Directory is another great opportunity to highlight the amazing range of local producers we have here in the Loddon Valley – such as breads, meats, olives and olive oil, tomatoes, fruit and salt,” Cr Beattie added.
