NATIVE GARDENING FOR SUSTAINABILITY

Published on 26 September 2019

WHEN:           Sunday 13 October

WHERE:         Mulwarrie Studios
                       3 Serpentine Road
                       Bridgewater

In today’s uncertain climate, there is no greater way to encourage growth and local fauna than with Indigenous planting. Discover all there is to know about natives and gardening for sustainability with this fantastic day out at Bridgewater’s Mulwarrie Studios.

Robert Scholes, from Friends of Kooyoora, the group responsible for the day, explains. “Obviously, if you grow local native plants, they will be attuned to the climate and the amount of water that we receive in the region. You will definitely have a lot more luck with your garden if you look at sustainable planting as opposed to growing introduced species.”

The day, running from 10.30am until 4pm, includes garden tours, plant sales and a number of information presentations.

“Many native plants have a number of uses and we are keen for people to learn about these,” Robert says. “The presentations will include planting to attract birds, bees, butterflies and other fauna; and growing native plants with traditional uses.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to discover more about local native flora, how they can best survive the climate we live in and also the many indigenous uses of some – from food through to crafting.”

Tickets are $10 with Friends Of Kooyoora members attending for free. Morning and afternoon tea will be available.
