Loddon Shire Council welcomes today’s announcement that it will receive $350,000 from the Commonwealth Government under the Bridges Renewal Program.
A joint announcement by the Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Darren Chester, and Senator for Victoria, Jane Hume, referred to three projects in the Bendigo region that will significantly improve driving conditions and deliver great benefits to the community.
Council applied for the funding to assist with the cost of replacing the Murphy Creek bridge.
The timber bridge is located approximately 1km north of Bendigo-Maryborough Rd on a sealed section of Woodstock West Road.
Loddon Shire Council Chief Executive Officer Phil Pinyon said “Council has recently needed to decline a number of heavy vehicle permit applications because of the bridge’s low load rating due to its condition.
The replacement of the bridge will ensure that the road and bridge has adequate capacity to incorporate all classes of heavy vehicles.”
The Federal Government’s financial commitment will be matched by Council in order to deliver the project.
