Australia Day reminder

A reminder that tomorrow (Wednesday 26 January) will see community celebrations take place across the Shire for Australia Day 2022.

Australia Day awards will also be presented at these community celebrations, as will presentations to winners of the Shire’s annual Australia Day competitions.

Community celebrations will be taking place at:

  • Boort – Nolen’s Park, food trucks and activities from 11am
  • Bridgewater – Sloan’s Park, barbecue breakfast from 8am
  • Eddington Community Centre, barbecue breakfast from 8am
  • Inglewood Swimming Pool, sausage sizzle from 11am
  • Newbridge Hall, sausage sizzle from 11.15am
  • Pyramid Hill Memorial Hall, community dinner from 5pm
  • Serpentine – TJ Rudkins Reserve, barbecue from 8.30am (BYO chairs)
  • Tarnagulla – Soldiers Memorial Park, barbecue from 5pm
  • Wedderburn – Soldiers Memorial Park, barbecue from 5pm

The celebrations will also see the attendance of Australia Day Ambassadors who will speak at community events. This year’s Australia Day Ambassadors are:

  • Mr Trevor Carroll (Boort and Pyramid Hill celebrations). Mr Carroll is the Chief Executive Officer of Disability Justice Advocacy, where he works with people with multiple disabilities who use mobility aids, or who cannot read or write, to protect their human rights.
  • Ms Sally Tucker (Bridgewater and Inglewood celebrations). Ms Tucker is a Sports Industry Expert and is a current board member of the Stawell Gift. She is actively involved in junior football and consults to a number of privately run businesses across Australia on their sales and marketing strategies.
  • Dr Nouria Saheli AM (Eddington, Newbridge and Tarnagulla celebrations). Dr Saheli is founder of the Afghan Australian Development Association and has spent many years as a passionate advocate for women’s rights and provision of education in Afghanistan.
  • Professor Greg Sassella (Serpentine and Wedderburn). Professor Sassella is former Chief Executive Officer of Ambulance Victoria, and served as a paramedic for many years prior to becoming an intensive care flight paramedic.

Agriculture Victoria NLIS training

Agriculture Victoria is offering free, online and interactive training around the National Livestock Identification System (NLIS) database and meeting traceability requirements for those who own or manage cattle, sheep or goats.

You will be able to learn about livestock traceability, take a tour of the NLIS database, watch a live demonstration of how to transfer livestock and practise completing a transfer.

The training will be held Wednesday 2 February from 11am to 12.30pm.

The event is the second of two-part online training. The first part of the training involves watching an online video before attending this scheduled training.

Victorian Rural Women’s Network Mentoring program

Expressions of Interest are now open for the Victorian Rural Women’s Network Mentoring program.

The mentoring program provides rural women an opportunity to take part in a reciprocal peer-to-peer style mentoring relationship that will be guided by an experienced facilitator.

Participants will be paired based on alignment of the participant’s experience and development goals.

The first round of applications close Monday 7 February.

If you are going through a tough time, eheadspace can help.

eheadspace provides free online and telephone support and counselling to young people aged 12 to 25 years, and their families and friends.

Council meeting today

Council’s January meeting will be held this afternoon at 3pm in the Loddon Shire Council Chambers, located behind the Wedderburn Council Office, off Peters Street.

Some of the items on the agenda include Community Plan allocations 2021/2022, Asset Management Plans for consideration for adoption, and an interim report on Council’s Volunteer Strategy.
