Draft Community Local Law – submissions close at the end of August
I’d like to start this week’s column with a reminder that submissions for the draft Community Local Law close Wednesday 31 August at 5pm.
The draft Community Local Law follows a review of Council’s existing and expired local laws (in accordance with the Local Government Act 2020), into a much simplified and easier to understand local law.
It covers a range of laws, including Council land, streets and roads, private property, animals and pets, waste and recycling, permits and fees, and enforcement.
I’d also like to make mention that there are a number of local laws in the draft document that have actually already been in effect for many years, and have not been changed.
I encourage you to please go to Council’s website and to view the Draft Community Local Law documents, including the document Part C table – Local Law review.
This table provides a summary of the changes and rationale for each clause of the draft Community Local Law 2022. This includes whether there is no change to a law, minor change, significant change, a new law, or a law that has been removed or deleted.
It also provides comment regarding any proposed changes and why.
You can access the Draft Community Local Law and documents via Council’s website where you can also submit your comment to the draft Community Local Law.
A copy of the draft local law is available for inspection (or can be printed on request) at the Council offices, 41 High Street, Wedderburn during business hours. A copy can also be posted to you by calling Council’s Customer Service on (03) 5494 1200.
If you would like to have your say or for further information – including about any of the proposed local laws in the draft document, please contact David Price at Council on (03) 5494 1225 or email loddon@loddon.vic.gov.au
Loddon Australia Day Committee vacancy
Council is calling for nominations from residents of both Inglewood Ward and Wedderburn Ward to fill a vacancy on the Loddon Australia Day Committee.
The Loddon Australia Day Committee comprises a community representative from each ward of the Loddon Shire, a Council representative and a Council-appointed administration officer. The position is voluntary.
The committee meets twice each year to promote Australia Day in the Loddon Shire, select winners of the Loddon Australia Day Awards and judge entries into the Shire-wide Australia Day competitions.
Applicants need to have a passion for their community, demonstrated experience as a volunteer, good communication skills and an interest in Australia Day in the Loddon Shire.
Applicants must reside in either the Inglewood Ward or the Wedderburn Ward of the Loddon Shire and have time available in November and December to critically assess nominations and award entries.
Please forward expressions of interest to Loddon Australia Day Committee, PO Box 21, Wedderburn, 3518 by 23 September 2022.
For further information please contact Robina Little, Administration Officer Australia Day on (03) 5494 1200 or email australiaday@loddon.vic.gov.au.
Loddon locals shine at junior public speaking competition
I’d like to congratulate East Loddon P12 College student Talia Smith who won the regional title for Years 3 and 4 students at the Lions Junior Public Speaking competition held in Cohuna earlier this month.
I’d also like to congratulate other Loddon local students who took part in the public speaking competition including Pyramid Hill Club winner Elsie Poole and Thomas Hercott from Pyramid Hill College.
I’d also like to congratulate Paige Smith from East Loddon P12 College who spoke in the Years 5 and 6 section. Paige stepped in for Ruby Cullen (who I’d also like to acknowledge), who was unable to attend the competition.
Producers reminded to update Property Identification Code
Agriculture Victoria is reminding producers who have changed address, contact details or diversified their livestock to make sure they update their Property Identification Code (PIC).
A PIC is the eight-character alphanumeric code allocated by Agriculture Victoria. Its purpose is for tracing and controlling disease and residue problems that may be detected, and for locating properties, and contacting owners and industry representatives.
According to Agriculture Victoria PICs are also used for emergency relief and recovery activities within an impacted zone – for example, foot-and-mouth or lumpy skin diseases.
To find out more or to apply for or amend a PIC, visit the Agriculture Victoria website.
Loddon Campaspe Group of Councils meeting
Last Friday (12 August) Council’s Chief Executive Officer Lincoln Fitzgerald and myself attended the Loddon Campaspe Group of Councils meeting in Echuca.
Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh MP also attended the meeting where we discussed a number of local issues, as well as the 2026 Commonwealth Games – including the potential collaboration between local councils on the games.
I’d like to thank the Member for Murray Plains for his time and discussions last week.
