Local producers to showcase their wares at Long Lazy Lunch

The tastes of Boort will be on the table when Simply Tomatoes and Salute Oliva showcase their wares at the upcoming Food Fossickers Long Lazy Sunday Lunch event this month.
The pop-up event, to be held at Bendigo’s Good Loaf Sourdough Bakery and Café on Sunday 29 October, will celebrate the Mediterranean flavours of central Victoria.
President of the Food Fossickers network Sonia Anthony said the group was excited to host the third event in the “Great Local Lunch” Sunday series.
“Food Fossickers is all about promoting 'local food on local plates',” Mrs Anthony said.
“We have so much abundance of quality produce right here in central Victoria; it's our mission to make sure everyone knows about it.
“Our pop-up events are a great way for everyone to connect directly to the producer and artisan who has created the food which they enjoy on the day. I believe it's truly magical knowing who grows your food, how it is grown and the story behind the producers. The food tastes so much better!”
Salute Oliva’s Marlies Eicher said the company had been part of the Food Fossickers group for a while, and the Long Lazy Sunday Lunch was an opportunity to showcase local produce.
“I like the concept of the Food Fossickers event and how it links food producers and food consumers together, while showcasing what products are available locally,” Mrs Eicher said.
“It’s a very friendly atmosphere that brings like-minded people together, who are passionate about the food and locally-sourced products.”
She added that Salute Oliva continued to ensure the company provided the highest-quality products to the market.
“We’ve been around for a while now and we just really strive to make the very best olive oil and products, while also trying to promote local produce and highlighting the quality of these products.”
Simply Tomatoes’ Marilyn Lanyon also said the Long Lazy Sunday Lunch event was a great opportunity to highlight the products of the Boort region.
“To be able to taste our local products – particularly our product as it is quite unique – it gives people a chance to learn about our region’s produce, while complementing other producers as well,” Mrs Lanyon said.
“Events such as the local lunch Sunday series are very important in raising awareness of what people are doing in their own backyards – all in a very enjoyable way.
“Also, Sonia is amazing in how she puts it all together.”
Mrs Anthony added that Salute Oliva and Simply Tomatoes were active members of the Food Fossickers network.
“They are enthusiastic and extremely energetic and we really enjoy engaging with them in any way we can to help promote what they do,” she said.
“Last year we hosted a farm tour where Bendigo visited Boort, now we are bringing Boort to Bendigo. It's great!
“They were a perfect fit for our host venue The Good Loaf Sourdough Bakery and Café bringing together the tastes of the Mediterranean right here in Bendigo.
“I'm looking forward to hearing both Peter [Salute Oliva] and Marilyn speak on the day - it's inspiring. Oh, and not forgetting to mention how delicious their products taste!”
Mrs Anthony encouraged people within the central Victorian community to get along to the event and support local producers.
“People will also learn more about who grows our food, how it is grown and how they can support by purchasing their products or attending events such as this one,” she said.
