Loddon Shire Councillor Wendy Murphy will officially open a new outdoor fitness station in Inglewood this Friday 16 December.

Led and funded by the Healthy Loddon Campaspe initiative, the equipment provides a free opportunity for locals and visitors to be physically active.

The equipment includes a balance beam, aerobic cycle, pull downs, leg press, chest press, body twist and step-ups.

The Inglewood outdoor fitness station is the fourth to be installed in Loddon Shire through the Healthy Loddon Campaspe initiative, with existing stations also in Boort, Pyramid Hill and Wedderburn.

The results from the 2019 Active Living Census highlighted that 56 per cent of females and 53 per cent of males who reside within the Loddon Shire want to exercise more. The new exercise equipment will enable more people living in and visiting the region to be more active more often.

Installing outdoor exercise equipment was identified as an action in goal 4 of the Inglewood Community Plan 2021 - 2031.

Cr Murphy said the new outdoor fitness equipment was a welcome addition to the Inglewood Recreation Reserve.

“The new fitness station further complements the recreation reserve and its facilities, while providing a great opportunity for our local community and visitors to enjoy new ways to be active,” Cr Murphy said.

“As highlighted by the 2019 Active Living Census, this exercise equipment will also give those residents who expressed a goal of wanting to exercise more, the chance to do so.”

Alicia O’Brien, Coordinator, Healthy Loddon Campaspe said, “As part of Healthy Loddon Campaspe’s focus on improving health outcomes in the region, we’re excited to provide Inglewood and surrounding communities with the new outdoor fitness equipment.

“The 2019 Active Living Census told us that time and cost are two of the main barriers to being physically active. The new fitness equipment provides all residents with the opportunity to be physically active for free and in their own time.”

Keep an eye out for information regarding a series of free exercise sessions with qualified instructors in early 2023.
