Enjoy a taste of the Loddon Valley region

If you have a love for all things food, particularly meals made from local produce, then make sure you get along to the Wedderburn Community Centre on 28 October for the Tastes of Loddon dinner.

To be held from 6.30pm to 10pm in the centre’s dining room, the evening will include a two-course meal, beautifully prepared from food found predominantly within the Loddon region. This month’s event will be held as part of the Naturally Loddon Spring Festival.

Wedderburn Community House Coordinator Jude Raftis said this was the second year the monthly Tastes of Loddon evening had run.

“The meal incorporates as much local produce as possible and is prepared by local cook Janet Bausch. Janet has extensive experience in the hospitality industry and is a well-known cook in the area,” she said.

“We usually have a theme each month and Janet goes to a lot of trouble to include local produce in that theme, while making it as authentic as possible. There’s always plenty of food on offer.

“The theme for this month’s dinner will be revealed closer to the date, as it is dependent on what produce is available at the time.”

Ms Raftis added that the Tastes of Loddon already had regular attendees.

“Since last year, we have got our regular guests who are always keen to know what is on the menu the next month. It has been very successful,” she said.

“We’ve also had a few people attending from out of town, who were staying in the area for the weekend and decided to come along to the Tastes of Loddon. They thought it was a great way to meet people and to find out what’s going on around the region.”

The Tastes of Loddon is generally held on the third Saturday of the month during the local football season and the last Saturday of the month for the rest of the year. The event is not run in December or January.

The cost for the two-course meal is just $30 per head with BYO drinks.

People interested in attending the Tastes of Loddon dinner are asked to book at least a week in advance for catering purposes and to avoid disappointment.

“As we can only fit 34 guests in the dining room, it is essential that people do make sure they book,” Ms Raftis added.
