Discover Wedderburn’s rich history and culture with a walking tour
Published on 20 November 2017
Visitors and locals will be able to gain an in-depth insight into Wedderburn’s rich history, heritage and culture with the launch later this month of walking tours of the town.
Hosted by the Loddon Visitor Information Centre, the walking tours will highlight the sights of Wedderburn and provide an additional experience for visitors to the area.
The tours will take in a number of sites in the town, including the former Wedderburn Primary School, old Presbyterian Church, Butterick’s House, Wedderburn Community Garden, Jacka Park and more.
Loddon Shire Council Tourism and Marketing Officer Robyn Vella said the walking tours provided the opportunity to learn more about the prominent places of Wedderburn.
“The walking tours will not only provide detailed information of the historic and cultural sites of Wedderburn, but are also the chance to find out the stories behind these sites,” Mrs Vella said.
“Locals may also learn a few things about the town that they never knew.”
Mrs Vella said visitor services were no longer just about “bricks and mortar” but rather experiences.
“These walking tours certainly provide added value to our visitor services and we’re looking forward to showcasing Wedderburn, its sights and history, as well as promoting the Shire as a whole,” she said.
“The tours have been developed for participation by people of all abilities. We also have the TrailRider all-terrain wheelchair, which can be used on the walking tour.”
Mrs Vella added that locals were welcome to put their name forward to become a tour guide.
“If there are any locals out there who would like to become tour guides for the Wedderburn Walking Tours, we’d love to hear from you,” Mrs Vella said.
The Wedderburn Walking Tours will leave from the Loddon Visitor Information Centre on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 11am, starting from Tuesday 21 November. Tours will cost adult $7.00, concession $5.00, child $2.50 and family $17.00.
