Clinical psychologist and natural disaster recovery and preparedness consultant David Younger will discuss common recovery challenges at the Bridgewater Hotel on Friday 4 August.

The community dinner, which gets underway at 6pm for a 6.30pm start, will include free meals, with drinks at bar prices.

As a clinical psychologist, David has witnessed first-hand the immense challenges communities have faced in the aftermath of catastrophic events, starting his journey in assisting communities in 2009 during the devastating Black Saturday fires.

However, he has also seen that within adversity, there are opportunities for recovery and growth.

Council’s Director Community Wellbeing Wendy Gladman encouraged community members to come along to the dinner.

“The 2022 October storm and flood event saw people across our Shire affected by this widespread flooding,” Mrs Gladman said.

“As we continue to see recovery efforts take place, the impacts of the flood event on our communities are still being felt across the region – including fatigue and mental health impacts.

“Through blending storytelling, scientific findings and real life experiences, David will talk about common recovery challenges, along with providing tips and pointers that can help people and their community recover better,” Mrs Gladman added.

“David has an unwavering commitment to serving communities and making a difference in the lives of those affected by natural disasters.

“We encourage our community to come along to this event, as our Shire continues its flood recovery journey.”
