Bridgewater Foreshore plans

Loddon Shire Council has released concept plans of a $400,000 redevelopment project designed to capitalise on Bridgewater’s natural riverside beauty.
Economic Development Manager Bryan McEwan said the project was designed to encourage residents to further enjoy their riverside home, and to invite passing travellers to take a rest break, stretch their legs and have a bite of lunch while enjoying the view.
Mr McEwan said Council was contributing $100,000 to the project and the remaining $300,000 was to be delivered through the Regional Development Victoria Drought Recovery Program.
“After considerable community consultation we’ve developed concept plans which depict a welcoming area for visitors and locals alike.
“While we’re still in the planning stages, we can look forward to the development of walking paths and cycling tracks featuring sculptural markers designed to encourage further exploration towards the next focal point which could be a seating wall, bench table or viewing platform.”
Mr McEwan said the redevelopment project, centred around the Loddon River Bridge and Bridgewater Hotel area, would also provide free wifi.
“It’s really about capturing passing traffic, whether that be local or visiting, and complementing the streetscape redevelopment currently being planned.”
Loddon Shire Council Mayor Neil Beattie said it was exciting to have concept plans in hand for what will prove to be one of the most significant tourism related projects to be undertaken within the municipality this year.
“Bridgewater is already a mecca for water-skiers, fishing and canoe clubs.
“Major sporting events such as The Australian Masters Water Ski Championships and annual Bridgewater Triathlon and Duathlon attract large tourism numbers to our Shire.
“However this Foreshore project provides a real opportunity to enhance the natural beauty of what is already a highly visited location to a level where our beautiful riverside town becomes a tourism attraction in its own right.”
Mayor Beattie said he was looking forward to seeing the concept plans come to life and seeing an increase in return visitor numbers which would provide a fantastic tourism focused economic boost to Loddon Shire.
Designs for The Bridgewater Foreshore project are expected to be underway by the end of May.
