Bridgewater Bakehouse back to back win

Published on 20 August 2019

The Bridgewater Bakehouse has backed up last year’s Great Australian Vanilla Slice Triumph win by taking home the trophy once again.

Bridgewater Bakehouse owner Patrick O’Toole said that staying with the winning formula, including the use of local Laucke flour, was key to his success at the Mildura competition on the weekend with his skill recognised in the national award.

“The competition was particularly tight this year with competitors from as far afield as West Australia” Mr O’Toole said. He added that judges were looking for attention to detail which even included the way that slices were presented and the precision with which they were cut.

He said that the Bakehouse is already considering what needs to be done for next year to remain ahead of the competition.

Winning the strongly contested competition is a coup for the town of Bridgewater with demand for the company’s products soaring in the wake of last year’s win and a similar result expected this time as well. Mr O’Toole said that business had been frantic and he was looking forward to attracting more visitors to the region in search of his award-winning products.
