Beach camp a great Christmas present

Two lucky children from Loddon Shire could be on their way to the Mornington Peninsula this summer for a fabulous beach holiday – courtesy of Council.
Each year, Council sponsors two places at a children’s holiday charity camp at Portsea which sees up to 300 children attending from all over Victoria.
The Portsea Camp has been operating for more than 60 years and a northern Victorian support team, known as the Kerang Portsea Camp Group, has been sending children from the Gannawarra, Loddon and Wakool Shire areas for half that time.
Manager Community and Recreation Allan Stobaus said Council had donated $670 again this year as its gesture of support.
“The camp takes children from nine to 12 years and aims to give them the holiday of a lifetime,” Mr Stobaus said.
”Preference is given to children who are disadvantaged or whose life experience or personal circumstance suggest they would benefit greatly from having a break.”
The Kerang group was aiming to take 48 children to this year’s camp, which runs from 2-9 January.
