Architect wins town hall contract

Loddon Shire Council has appointed Hughes Cartwright Design Group, of Bendigo, as architect for the design documentation of the Inglewood Town Hall Hub redevelopment.

Members of the Project Working Group, representing key stakeholders in the community, will continue their consultations early in the New Year.

The $2.15 million project will deliver a three-tier extension to the current building to incorporate new training rooms, toilets, community facilities and business spaces, the restoration of existing rooms and a kitchen upgrade.

The redeveloped town hall will also include places for community engagement programs such as exercise, music, art and other hobby classes, drop-in coffee and conversation areas, health and employment services, space for special events and local displays.

It will serve as a key central meeting place for the Inglewood community.

Project manager Adrian Lowrey said the Hughes Cartwright Design Group was chosen for its track record in similar heritage projects and its acknowledgement of the extensive consultation process which would be necessary at Inglewood.

“In the meantime, a quote has been accepted for underpinning works on the south-west wall and that will happen in the new year,” Mr Lowrey said.

“Plumbing and waste management information has been received and some plumbing works will start early in 2014.

“The first quarter of next year will be a busy period for us, as we need get things done by key points in time and really nail down what these spaces will look like and how they will function.

“It will be a matter of pairing invaluable local knowledge with experts’ views on such areas as kitchen layout, the music room, community centre administration and more.”
