Accommodation guide released
Published on 05 November 2014
Loddon Shire has released an Accessible Accommodation Guide to make it easier for people with a disability and others to visit the region.
The guide allows visitors to identify which accommodation providers could meet their access needs, as well as giving tourism businesses an avenue to promote their services.
Disability Inclusion Officer Jolie Middleton said a reference group made up of community members with a disability, or with experience of disability, provided vital input into the guide’s development.
“Their time and contribution was invaluable,” she said.
“Involvement in the project was voluntary for accommodation providers, but we had eight businesses from across the Loddon Shire participating.
“The providers said they found the access checklist valuable in helping to identify simple changes they could make to increase their premises’ appeal to visitors.”
The full Accessible Accommodation Guide, with checklist and resource sheets, is available under the “Invest” section of Council’s website, while completed access checklists can be found in the “Visit” section.
