A fiesta at Pyramid Hill

A multicultural fiesta will showcase the richness of the Australian and Filipino heritage, as the Pyramid Hill community combines to offer a taste of each culture.

The Pyramid Hill Progress Association is spearheading a fiesta in conjunction with Filipino and other community groups. The fiesta will showcase the food, music, art, sport, drama and dance of the Australian and Filipino cultures.

While the idea may only have just been sparked, Cr Cheryl McKinnon said the event was already booked in for 10 October after Pyramid Hill College Principal Joe Mazzarella offered the school as the venue.

“We want to display and share the Filipino’s rich and diverse culture and heritage, as well as our unique Australian customers and traditions, with the wider community,” she said.

“The impressive facilities, both indoor and outdoor, at the college will provide a diverse range of options for the various activities.

“College teachers have also expressed an interest in incorporating the fiesta’s theme into the curriculum to give students maximum exposure.”

Cr McKinnon said the steering group is looking for people to share their ideas and become involved.

“There has been strong community support and everyone is really excited by the idea,” she said.

Loddon Shire Council Manager Tourism Robyn Vella has been a key instigator of the concept and will facilitate the development of the fiesta as a major event for the district.
