Sensational sports season comes to a close
As North Central and Loddon Valley Leagues seasons come to a close, we at Loddon wish competing clubs every success and congratulate award winners in both leagues.
I attended both leagues’ gala nights which were extremely well run. Loddon will continue its season sponsorship and assistance in developing facilities to a high standard.
Fantastic facilities just up the road
Regardless of which corner of the Shire you live in, a playground or pool not too far from home is being prepared for the sunny days ahead.
The Inglewood Swimming Pool chair lift installation is scheduled to begin this week.
All going well the project is expected to be completed by the middle of the month in anticipation of the Inglewood Swimming Pool opening on Saturday 19 November.
As you may recall, Council imported the chair lift from America to ensure having a wheel chair proved no barrier to independent swimming in our municipality.
While the initiative, which is the first of its kind in Victoria is exciting, it’s part of a larger multi-purpose facility upgrade which will benefit all swimmers and netballers.
In Boort the finishing touches are being added to a major upgrade of Nolen’s Park in Godfrey Street.
During the planning stages, Council ensured recreational opportunities for families and individuals of all abilities were kept in mind, with the new playground including an equal access swing.
Meanwhile, the four seat rocker, bird nest swing, climbing net and whirly gig spinner are sure to prove popular.
Council has continued to invest in Pyramid Hill’s Kelly Park, with the installation of new footpaths to be lit by solar bollards and playground equipment improvements next on the list.
The bulk of the work is expected to be finished when the township swells for the second annual Pyramid Hill Fiesta on Saturday 22 October.
Eddington Racecourse Recreation Reserve has been given a new lease of life with the installation of a new slide and climbing equipment, while Mitiamo’s Phelan Reserve has benefited from a new barbecue.
As the weather fines up I hope you enjoy meeting with family and friends to make the most of these wonderful community facilities.
Call to nominate young achievers
Nominations for the Victorian Young Achiever Awards are now open and we want our young achievers to be recognised!
Young achievers can be nominated for categories covering volunteer excellence, community service and social impact, group achievement in the community, leadership, arts and fashion, research impact, health and wellbeing or online achievement.
Nominations are being sought until Thursday 1 December.
Everyone that submits a nomination will go into the draw for a $200 voucher from The Coffee Club.
But more importantly your nomination will be supporting youth who are the future of our municipality and who knows, we may find we have a category winner or even the Victorian Young Achiever of the year within our ranks.

Naturally Loddon Festival a golden opportunity
The annual Naturally Loddon Spring Festival draws visitors to our townships each year.
However, this year’s numbers could increase further following news that a massive gold nugget weighing 4.1 kilograms has been unearthed in The Golden Triangle.
The story, widely reported in state and national news headlines, has brought Wedderburn, Tarnagulla and Inglewood’s golden past under the spotlight once again.
While the exact location of the nugget find remains a mystery, there’s more than a little gold fever running in prospecting circles across the country.
Let’s hope this proves a golden opportunity to increase interest in this year’s Spring Festival.
Please join me in inviting friends or family along to at least one event on this year’s calendar set to run through to 30 October.
Be sure to particularly keep in mind any in your social circles who don’t mind a spot of fossicking to round off festivities!
Plan ahead by visiting www.loddon.vic.gov.au or contact the Loddon Visitor Information Centre on 5494 3489.
