There are some exciting changes to the format of this years’ annual Kooyoora Wildflower Show with wonderful presenters appearing over the course of the weekend, in addition to the wildflower walks and bus tours.

Robert Scholes, from Friends Of Kooyoora, explains the new format. “Previously we’ve had large and detailed static displays,” Robert says. “Whilst we will still have this information, we are really looking forward to getting more people out into the bush and seeing the wildflowers in person.

“It’s looking like it will be a very good season for the flowers and we will have a base set up in the Kooyoora State Park with a shuttle bus bringing people out from the museum. There are set times for the three walks each day, and people are also welcome to drive themselves out.”

The Wildflower Show, now running for over 12 years, is also offering expert presenters over the weekend, providing information on the park and its flora and fauna on both a practical and creative level.

“The park is now in joint management with Dja Dja Wurung,” Robert explains. “This ensures that there is further emphasis on traditional land management practices and we have a number of Indigenous presenters who are able to share their knowledge.

“Saturday will be all about projects and what is happening in the park with regards to
re-introduction programs and preservation of rare species. On the Sunday, we are looking at various uses of indigenous native plants – from tool making to basket weaving and crafting. The Show is really evolving and we are excited about the new changes.”

With a photographic competition, Indigenous plants and book sales and refreshments and food also available, there is a great deal to learn and enjoy. Entry is $5 per adult and $10 for a family.
