Voting opens for Pick My Project

Voting is now open to choose local projects under the Victorian Government’s Pick My Project initiative. You can help make your favourite project ideas a reality by voting for the top three eligible projects in your local community.

According to Pick My Project, more than 2500 project ideas across the state were submitted.

Project ideas with the most votes will share in the $30 million funding, with between $20,000 and $200,000 available for each project idea.

The $30 million in funding has been divided between six metropolitan and nine regional partnership areas, with each to receive at least $1 million for project ideas in their area.

Voting closes at 5pm, Monday 17 September 2018.

Northern Victoria New Energy Customer Workshop

If your business is struggling with rising energy costs, or has an energy efficiency or new energy solution to offer, then the Northern Victoria New Energy Customer Workshop could be for you.

Hosted by the City of Greater Bendigo, Bendigo Sustainability Group and the Victorian Government, the free workshop aims to increase the energy literacy of large energy users in the region.

It also aims to help participants identify options to take greater control of their energy future, inform them about the economics of behind the meter, power purchasing agreements and energy efficiency solutions, and provide advice on new energy and funding options.

The workshop will be held on Thursday 30 August 2018 from 8.30am to 11.30am at the Conservatory Room at the All Seasons Conference Centre in Bendigo.

BRIC officially opened

It was a great honour to officially open the Boort Resource and Information Centre (BRIC) library extension last Thursday (9 August).

Following the opening, renowned author Ann Cleeves (creator of the iconic “Vera” and “Shetland” series) gave a very interesting talk about her writing career, as well as libraries and literature.

The BRIC library extension project has added approximately 62 square metres to the eastern end of the current building, enabling it to house a library room, computer area and children’s activity area.

The new extension will serve as a library agency for the Goldfields Library Corporation and has the capacity to house three times more books, magazines and other items onsite. It will also improve access to library programs such as children’s story time.

As well as providing a practical and functional area for the Boort library agency (as part of the Goldfields Library Service) the project will provide upgraded facilities and improvements to the amenity at BRIC. This will complement the other services at the centre including Neighbourhood House, Rural Transaction Centre, Learn Local and community hub.

Funding for the $280,000 project has been made possible thanks to the Victorian Government’s Living Libraries Infrastructure Program ($240,000), the Boort Resource and Information Centre ($20,000) and Council ($20,000).

Did you know?

In mentioning libraries, did you know that 7.21 per cent of our population are active library members?

This figure doesn’t include general visitors to our library agencies, those who use the library for WiFi or computers, those attending programs at the library, or borrowings from electronic collections.

I encourage our community to make the most of the services that our library agencies provide.
