February Council Meeting outcomes

February’s Council Meeting saw several items presented for the Councillors’ consideration.

Outcomes of the meeting included:

  • Adoption of the Borrowing Policy v2
  • Received and noted the Finance Report for the quarter ending 31 December 2023
  • Appointment of Rod Poxon as the Audit and Risk Committee Chairperson
  • Received and noted the Local Laws and Planning Compliance Quarterly Activity Report
  • Received and noted the Tourism and Economic Development Quarterly Activity Report Oct – Dec 2023
  • Council make a submission in support of the Ward Boundary Review preliminary report.

A reminder that Council Meetings usually take place on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 3pm.

Relocation of Pyramid Hill Maternal and Child Health Service

Due to building works, the Pyramid Hill Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Service has relocated to 12 Victoria Street (Northern District Community Health). The MCH Service moved to this new address on Monday 26 February.

Birchip Cropping Group’s Young Farmer Network Ball

Council is pleased to support the Birchip Cropping Group’s Young Farmer Network Ball, to be held at the Bridgewater Hotel on Friday, 15 March 2024.

Birchip Cropping Group operates five Young Farmer Network groups: Buloke, Quambatook, Loddon, West Wimmera, and Yarriambiack/Hindmarsh.

The network provides young farmers in the region with educational opportunities to assist in furthering their knowledge in the industry, while providing a sense of community and a social outlet.

Provide your thoughts about recreation at a ROSA drop-in session

I encourage community members to provide their thoughts and ideas about recreation in Loddon Shire at an upcoming drop-in session for Council’s Recreation, Open Space and Aquatic Strategy (ROSA).

Planning of the 10-year ROSA is underway, with a key focus to be around the use of the diverse open spaces in Loddon Shire, including:

  • sport and other active recreation reserves
  • parks and playgrounds
  • swimming pools
  • tracks and trails
  • bushland reserves
  • rivers and lakes

Drop-in sessions

Wednesday 6 March

  • Boort IGA: 9am to 10.30am
  • Pyramid Hill store: 11am to 12pm
  • East Loddon P-12: From 1pm onwards
  • Bridgewater Bowls Club: 5pm to 6pm

Thursday 7 March

  • Tarnagulla Community Hub: 9:30am to 11am
  • Wedderburn 24 Karat Cafe: 12pm to 1:30pm

I also urge everyone to complete the ROSA survey. This survey allows you to select your top three ideas regarding the use of recreation facilities in the Shire.

Loddon Healthy Minds Network Art Competition now open

In an effort to continue to raise awareness of mental health within the Loddon community, the Loddon Healthy Minds Network will be conducting their art competition again in 2024.

Categories include an Open Age section, Senior Students (years 9 to 12) and middle school students (grades 5 to Year 8). There are also two junior students’ categories – grades 3 and 4 and grades Prep to 2.

The two themes for the Open Age section and Senior Students categories are Creating my Calm or It’s Okay to Take a Break and the themes for the Middle Grade Students are Your Feelings are Valid or Be Thoughtful About What You Share Online.

The junior students’ categories will be a colouring competition (poster provided to the region’s schools), with the theme Stay Positive in the Junior Grades (grades 3 and 4) and Your Feelings Matter (grades Prep to 2).

All entries are to be completed and delivered to the Loddon Shire office at Wedderburn by 5 August 2024.
