George the Farmer is coming to Loddon!

Published on 19 October 2023

Children in Loddon Shire will learn about where their food comes from in a unique and fun way when George the Farmer performs live on Sunday 12 November at the Serpentine Recreation Reserve.

This ideal family day out for Loddon Shire residents, weaves together fantastic agricultural and preparedness messaging – all tailored for kids 10 and under.

Talented singer/songwriter Sherri Parry will keep the good times rolling while attendees enjoy a free lunch on the lawn, ice cream and barista-made coffee.

This not to be missed relaxed and friendly family event has all your bases covered – with Red Cross also hosting activities on the day.

Council has organised the event for residents as part of Council’s Community Recovery Program, jointly funded by the Australian and Victorian Governments.

George the Farmer’s down-to-earth manner and grassroots charm resonates “terrifically” with young children in rural locations while inspiring city-based children to have a better understanding and connection to agriculture.

The George the Farmer story began in 2012 when founder Simone Kain was trawling the internet looking for farming books and apps for her farm-obsessed son George.

Ms Kain said the toddler was desperate to be out with his dad on the farm and she wanted to find something to entertain and inspire him while he was indoors.

“I quickly discovered there wasn't a human farming character globally who was telling sequential stories about life on the land for children, let alone a modern Aussie farmer telling real, relatable yarns,” she said.
