Respect Victoria
Respect Women: Call It Out 16 Days of Activism is an initiative about family and gender violence.
“Respect is…” is the theme of Respect Victoria’s 2020 campaign. This is a positive message that aims to support Victorian communities to have conversations about ‘respect’ – what respect means to us, what respect looks like and how to put respect into practice, especially about gender equality.
Respect Victoria’s focus is stopping all forms of family violence and violence against women before it starts by changing the norms, practices and structures that allow it to happen.
Key Statistics
- On average one woman a week is murdered by her current or former partner
- 50% of women and 25% of men have experienced sexual harassment during their lifetime.
- 64% of Victorian women have experienced bullying, harassment or violence in their workplace.
- 93% of all victims of violence, whether women or men, experience violence from a male perpetrator.
- 33% of LGBTI Australian having experienced violence from a partner, ex-partner or family member. These numbers are even higher for intersex, transgender and gender diverse people
How can you help? The call to action is “Respect Women: Call It Out” and the campaign encourages people to ‘call it out’ when they witness disrespect, sexism, harassment and abusive behaviour – drivers that can lead to violence against women.
