bagMUSTER
bagMUSTER is a pioneering, industry-led product stewardship initiative created to tackle the growing issue of single-use plastic waste in Australian agriculture. Each year, approximately 60,000 tonnes of plastic waste are generated on farms, much of it from single-use polypropylene bags. Without sustainable disposal solutions, this plastic can pollute waterways, harm ecosystems, and degrade soil quality.
Phase 1 of the program will begin in Western Victoria, with plans to expand across Australia as infrastructure and resources allow.
bagMUSTER empowers farmers and growers to take meaningful steps toward sustainability, contributing to a greener, cleaner future for Australian agriculture.
What type of bags does bagMUSTER collect?
bagMUSTER collects and recycles single-use polypropylene (PP) agricultural plastic bags used for products like fertiliser, seed, grain (excluding silo bags), stock feed, and pet food. These bags typically ranging from 25kg to over 1,200kg bulk bags, are purchased from participating retailers, helping to reduce agricultural waste and promote responsible disposal practices.
Who can participate in the bagMUSTER program?
The program is open to farmers, agricultural businesses, and anyone who has purchased single-use PP agricultural bags from participating retailers. Retailers and manufactures can participate by partnering with bagMUSTER and encouraging their customers to return eligible bags to collection sites. Please note, bags are only accepted at collection sites if purchased from participating retailers.
When will bagMUSTER collection sites start accepting bags?
bagMUSTER collection sites will officially begin accepting bags mid-late January 2025. Please ensure your bags meet the program requirements before dropping them off.
