The Coronation of Poppea by Claudio Monteverdi

Lyster Opera returns to Tarnagulla with a professional production of Claudio Monteverdi's masterpiece, The Coronation of Poppea.  

Monteverdi's sweeping score – full of tragedy and comedy, stoicism and joy, romance and revenge – showcases early opera at its finest.

Poppea is determined to marry Emperor Nero and rule alongside him.
Nero is determined to have Poppea, regardless of the cost.
And they will remove anyone who stands in their way.
But who is really in control?

The goddesses of Love, Virtue and Fortune meddle in the affairs of mortals as they battle for supremacy in Ancient Rome.

This production will be performed in English, using the Raymond Leppard edition.

Featuring Piera Dennerstein and Hew Wagner, with Kerrie Bolton, Mandy Brook, Troy Castle, Adelaide Soccio Greenaway, Helen Koehne, Michael Lampard, Jamie Moffat, Josh Morton-Galea and Angelique Tot. Musical direction by Pamela Christie.
